Course about spatial music and multichannel systems (Saint-Petersburg)
Lectures and practical sessions dedicated to Wave Field Synthesis (WFS)—a spatial audio system that creates volumetric sound images throughout a space. The lectures took place at the LES (Dom Radio, Saint Petersburg) on a 16-channel system. The program consists of four interconnected modules. The first focuses on the role of space in the history of music and sound. The second covers the evolution of multichannel audio systems, from both hardware and software perspectives. In the third module, participants listen to and discuss works by composers working with Wave Field Synthesis, exploring principles of spatial composition. Finally, the fourth module is devoted to the technical aspect: an overview of WFS theory and hands-on work with the WFSCollider interface.
